The meet from bovines, particularly domestic animals that can be cooked is called Beef. It can be collected from cows, bulls, heifers or steers. Major Middle Eastern countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Europe, North America, Africa, portions of East Asia, South-East Asia make use of beef as one of the chief meats in their cuisine. On the other hand, beef is also considered as a forbidden food in some ethos, especially in Indian ethos and is avoided by some Buddhists too.

Meat from Beef muscle has tendency to be sliced into steak, roasts or short ribs. Beef jerky and corned beef’s cuts are processed. Trimmings are combined with meat from domestic animals and are minced or used in sausages. Beef obtained from steers and heifers is termed alike but steers have a little less fat and more muscle.

Beef ranks third in the most commonly eaten meat in the world. United States, Brazil and China are the major users of beef.

Beef History

Beef as food dates back long time in history. The cave paintings from prehistoric times of Lascaux and aurochs show hunting scenes that give the idea of beef being consumed for food. People started to make animals domestic in around 8000 BC.

Beef Cuts

Initially, beef is separated in primal cuts. These are key segments from which steaks and other sections are cut. Meet in legs and neck muscles, is hard as compared to the meet in other parts of the body. Different countries around the world have similar or dissimilar names for cuts, according to their region’s use. Most famous are American and Brazilian cuts. American primal cuts include forequarter cuts and hind quarter cuts. Brazilian primal cuts include: Oxtail, Eye of the Round, Outside Round, Top Inside, Shank, Knuckle, Tenderloin, Rump Steak, Sirloin, Tenderloin, Skirt of Tenderloin, Bottom Sirloin, Short Ribs, Prime Rib, Chuck, Shoulder, Breast, Neck, Rib Eye Steak, Tri-Tip, Rump.

Cooking Beef

Beef is cooked in several ways. The most common ways are: grilling, broiling (also known as grilling), roasting, stir frying, stewing, braising, smoked, cured and sous vide (French for under vacuum).

Beef Export

Major exporters of beef are: Brazil, Australia and United Stated. Other than these three, countries like Paraguay, Argentina, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Russia and Uruguay are beef producers too.
