How to eat warty slugs
Warty slug Peronia verruculata is a very common warty slug in the Philippines and they often forage for this slug for a quick snack. These slugs belong to shell-less marine gastropod molluscs and are pretty tasty. In this recipe, I will show how these warty slugs are consumed in the Philippines.

step-by-step instructions

  1. First of all, you need to find these slugs in the shore area. Try to search for them at the low tide time in the algae fields, they often stay on the surface. Peronia verruculata slugs have a colour from dark green to a grey-brown, similar to the algae and rocks, but because they stay on the surface, it is easy to spot them.

  2. They are clean but can produce a lot of mucus-containing slime, which can make it difficult to handle these warty slugs. Do not use salt to rub off all slime - this will dehydrate them and make them much more solid.

  3. Prepare dipping sauce, like sawsawan. The main ingredients are - fresh hot chilli, kalamansi (lime) juice, vinegar, and soy sauce, combined in proportions pleasant for taste.

  4. By pressing on the warty slug stomach, remove all intestines. When the intestines are removed, wash them and dip them into a sauce. you can marinade for a couple of minutes.

  5. Eat raw and enjoy real rural food from the Philippines, which you just forage by yourself.

This is how local people catch and eat these warty slugs in the Philippines.
