IntroductionDuring my stay near the Bohol Sea in Cebu, I decided to try two unique Filipino craft beers from Engkanto Brewery, located in Carmona, Cavite, Philippines. These were the Honey Ale (5.1% ABV) and Ube Lager (5.5% ABV) - both modern Filipino interpretations of classic beer styles with tropical character.Honey Ale (5.1% ABV)First impression:The Honey Ale poured a pale golden colour, slightly cloudy in appearance, with a weak but pleasant floral aroma. Tasting notes for Honey Ale:
A nice, drinkable beer that works well for casual sipping in hot weather. Rating: 6/10 Ube Lager (5.5% ABV)First impression:The Ube Lager - made with purple yam - poured a dark brown, nearly black colour, not quite purple as expected. It had an intriguing earthy aroma with a subtle ube note. Tasting notes for Ube Lager:
An interesting beer concept - sweet, fruity, and fun - but missing the body and depth to make it exceptional.
