It is possible to find plenty different tinned mushy peas, but during the storage time they loose almost all taste. The best way to preserve peas taste and aroma, is to freeze it. Therefore the best mushy peas can only be made from frozen peas, or, from a fresh one. In this article I will explain, how to make mushy peas from frozen peas. This is very quick and simple recipe, with total cooking time less that 10 minutes. This mushy peas can be used as an extra side dish to almost all dishes.

step-by-step instructions

  1. Ingredients for 4 portions:
    • Frozen sweet and tender green garden peas, 300 gm.
    • Extra thick double cream, 4 tbsp.
    • Butter, 1 tbsp.
    • Black pepper, ½ tsp. freshly ground.
    • Salt, ½ tsp. + 1 tsp.

  2. In a small bowl bring to boil a bit of salted water. Approximately 1 litre of water, and 1 tsp of salt. Add peas and bring to boil again. Simmer about 3 minutes, or until tender. Do not cook for a long time – peas will loose all taste and aroma.

  3. Remove peas from the bowl and drain excessive water.

  4. Place all ingredients, boiled peas, double cream, butter, pepper and salt into a large bowl.

  5. Process everything with hand blender or food processor. Serve immediately!
