Salted food is a food cooked only by salting, with or without adding extra flavouring spices. Salted food is cooked only by maturing with salt and sometimes with further drying in an air or in a a cold smoke. Very often, salted food can be stored for reasonably unlimited time, because the salt can be used as a preservative.

Salting is a very common process for preserving food for a long time, which is very important in the case of absence of fridges. Also dried salted food is about 50-70% lighter than original food, due to lack of water and it is very important for long time travellers.
